There examples are on a very basic level , the templates that are supplied are for understandning the basics and no more then that.
Over all, I was very dissapointed. This book is for for beginers in excel who want to upgrade their thinking and planning to beginner plus level.

Stellar Interiors - Physical Principles, Structure, and Evolution ReviewThis is an excellent book on stellar astrophysics. It is comprehensive and detailed. The authors
know their material very well, and are able to present, discuss, and explain it concisely.
I knew a fair amount about stellar astrophysics before reading this book, but I certainly know more
now.
The book has a little of the flavour of Chandrasekhar's work on stellar structure, to its benefit
(Chandrasekhar's book itself is grievously obsolete). Some of this influence is shown in the section on
Stellar Modelling, with its lengthy discussion of polytropes, and the Eddington standard model.
That section on stellar modelling is an excellent feature, as it is not something which necessarily finds
its way into books on stellar structure.
One matter, however. The advertised CD-ROM is not included. My copy was printed late in 2010. The material
can be found at [...]. Neither the ISBN-10 (from the book) nor the ISBN-13 (available here at Amazon)
worked, but browsing by year I found it. Shockingly, the ATMOS section and the EVOLUTION section have only
Windows executables, though there is a link in one section to what is described as modern Unix code.
Really, functional Fortran code is the icing on the cake, the cake being a very fine book on stellar astrophysics.

Thinking About Equations: A Practical Guide for Developing Mathematical Intuition in the Physical Sciences and Engineering Review"Thinking About Equations" is a collection of techniques and examples from across a broad range of science and engineering disciplines, organized according to the underlying themes, with insightful demonstrations of how they may be applied to realistic situations.
In his autobiography, Physicist Richard Feynman attributes his success at solving problems, in part, to the "Different Box of Tools" he acquired in his early studies. This text now offers any reader a versatile set of tools to dissect, analyze, and solve problems across a broad range of fields. It also includes general strategies for analyzing problems and identifying interrelations and common motifs, whereby one may gain a deeper understanding of the material.
The book addresses broad themes common to a variety of disciplines. For example, several chapters illustrate the use of diagrams, graphs, and symmetries to quickly and efficiently pare down the feasible solutions of a problem, and characterize the final result. These techniques have a natural application for numerical problems, and the text illustrates this using Fourier Series as an example.
Another chapter highlights the utility of special and limiting cases. For example, proving that an equation is correct can be a difficult task in general, while demonstrating an equation is incorrect requires only one counterexample. This technique can be used to quickly eliminate "dead ends" and "wrong turns" in the search for correct solutions.
Movies often portray scientists and engineers as memorizing inconsequential data out to the sixth decimal place. The truth is often the opposite--they are more interested in relationships and interdependencies, and the chapter on scaling and dimensional analysis will help the reader to appreciate the power of such relations.

This book covers a much overlooked area of aviation history dealing with P-47 Thunderbolts and P-51 Mustangs in the CBI and the Pacific Theaters. The First hand accounts from the pilots in the book are also excellent. This book gives these gentlemen their due. It is a great book and I recommend it highly. I look forward to more books by John Stanaway. Measuring Metabolic Rates: A Manual for Scientists ReviewThis is an excellent how-to manual. If you have read manuals for Sable Systems products, you are familiar with John Lighton's writing style. It is very conversational and sprinkled with a certain personal style of humor. Unfortunately, the preview pages here on Amazon do not include the preface, so I will quote a particularly choice part of the first page of the preface here. It quite clearly describes who should read this book, while being an excellent example of the kind of humor throughout the book.
"I suggest that you first read this book as an idiosyncratic sort of novel, including the parts you know you'll never need, and then, with that background, return to the sections most relevant to your scientific goals. If you don't have time, it may be that you are too important to read this book and should pass it on to a factotum who will do your understanding for you. Don't feel slighted by this judgment: you may go far if it applies to you. As Villiers de l-Isle-Adam's Axel might have said, "Understand? Our servants will do that for us." The goal is for someone in the operation to understand. If you are that person, welcome: This is your book."
If this turns you off, just read P.C Wither's 2001 article "Design, calibration and calculation for flow-through respirometry systems" in the Austral. J. Zool. 49:445-461 and D. Vleck's 1987 "Measurement of O2 consumption, CO2 production, and water vapor production in a closed system" in J Appl Physiol 62:2103-2106 and go to John Lighton's webpage [...] for conversion tables and other questions. I think you'll get a much more complete and rounded understanding by reading this book, but it really doesn't have any new information. It's just a very, very clear and somewhat amusing brain dump from an expert in respirometry to any willing reader.
This book includes not just the formulas, but many permutations of them, many many different set-up diagrams and a lot of background that really makes it easier to make informed decisions about how to use the equipment you have and what equipment to buy.Measuring Metabolic Rates: A Manual for Scientists Overview

Astronomy: The Evolving Universe, 9th Edition ReviewIf you were ever interested in what is going on above in heavens, but didn't want to trouble yourself with too much equations and other non-esential stuff, then this is the book for you. It is a textbook, and it reads as a textbook. You'll find that everything is included: from our Solar system, to the nuclear processes in the stars, to the black holes. Descriptions are as they should be for the non-pros: comprehensive and simple (yet not trivial), well presented (love those many color pictures) and to the point. Great for an occasional star-gazer as well as astronomy students to revise their knowledge. And the Night Spectra Quest is a neat beginner's tool to examining star spectra. If you get more interested after studying this book, I recommend "An Introduction to Modern Astrophysics", which goes more deeply into the study of astrophysics and cosmology.Astronomy: The Evolving Universe, 9th Edition Overview
