F-100 Super Sabre at War ReviewThe F-100 was an American Cold War stalwart, serving in the USAF and many Allied air forces around the world. The 'Hun' proved its mettle flying close air support strikes over South Vietnam in the '60s and pioneered the Wild Weasel mission over the North. (It also unofficially scored the first MiG kill of the war but that's another story).
If you're a F-100 fan and want to read a nuts-and-bolts technical history of the Super Sabre, this is your book. If you're looking for a combat history of the Hun, forget it! Despite its title, this is NOT repeat NOT a combat history of the aircraft. Out of 128 pages, the book probably devotes 10 to combat, most of that being Wild Weasel material.
What you do get is lots of technical info on the aircraft's origins, structure, internal systems, weapons, etc. along with chapters on the different F-100 models, foreign operators, flight characteristics, the F-100B/F-107A model, etc. (It's rather dry for my taste but I never was into nuts-and-bolts). Then too the book is nicely illustrated with over 110 color and black & white photos along with scads of three-views, exploded views, cutaways and so on.
To be honest, if the book had been titled 'The F-100 Super Sabre,' I would have given it a '4.' But the "At War" title is just plain wrong.F-100 Super Sabre at War Overview
