TExES Science 4-8 116 Teacher Certification Test Prep Study Guide (XAM TEXES) ReviewI completely read through this book before taking the Texes Science 4-8 and I think it was helpful, but I would say it is indicative of what is on the test.
Pros: Covers all areas and gives a good general overview of everything (including far more depth than required for the test). It is especially good for someone like me who hadn't taken any astronomy, biology, or earth science classes in probably 15 years (and I hadn't had astronomy or biology since probably elementary school). Overall, if you cover what is in the book the test should seem really easy if you have a good ability to reason (if you don't, I'd focus on that -- you need to be able to see a picture or diagram and be able to understand what is happening and the principles that are illustrated by the scenario/experiment that is given).
Cons: Practice test isn't at all indicative of the actual test. The questions on the practice test are harder as far as knowledge, but they require more regurgitation and less reasoning than the actual test does. There were questions on the test that required information that wasn't in the book (2 or 3, mostly teaching methods type of things...1 was an actual knowledge question where the book missed that part of the topic). Also the book didn't accurately tell you how much time you have or how many questions are given. You are given something insane like 4 or 5 hours, and only 90 multiple choice question (the book's practice test has 120 questions).
The book only has one written practice test (no digital practice tests). It would also be nice if it had a review section with practice questions after each section.TExES Science 4-8 116 Teacher Certification Test Prep Study Guide (XAM TEXES) Overview
